What is Global Talent Stream

What is Global Talent Stream (GTS)?

The Global Talent Stream is a program administered by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers for in-demand, high-skilled occupations in a faster and more streamlined manner. The Global Talent Stream is part of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and is intended to help Canadian employers fill job shortages and support the growth of their businesses.

To be eligible for the Global Talent Stream, an employer must be able to demonstrate that they have a need for a highly skilled foreign worker and that the worker will make a significant contribution to the Canadian economy. The employer must also meet certain criteria, such as having a valid business number and being in good standing with ESDC.

The Global Talent Stream has two streams: the Stream for Fast-Growing Firms and the Stream for Established Firms. The Stream for Fast-Growing Firms is intended for employers who are experiencing rapid growth and need to hire foreign workers to meet their business needs. The Stream for Established Firms is intended for employers who are looking to hire foreign workers for in-demand, high-skilled occupations.

If an employer is approved for the Global Talent Stream, they can hire a foreign worker and the worker can apply for a work permit. The Global Talent Stream aims to process applications within a few weeks, which is faster than the standard LMIA process. However, it is important to note that the Global Talent Stream is not a guarantee of an LMIA or a work permit, and employers must still meet all applicable requirements and follow all applicable laws and regulations.

Global Talent Stream Process

The process for applying for the Global Talent Stream involves the following steps:

  1. Determine eligibility: To be eligible for the Global Talent Stream, an employer must demonstrate that they have a need for a highly skilled foreign worker and that the worker will make a significant contribution to the Canadian economy. The employer must also meet certain criteria, such as having a valid business number and being in good standing with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
  2. Select the appropriate stream: The Global Talent Stream has two streams: the Stream for Fast-Growing Firms and the Stream for Established Firms. The Stream for Fast-Growing Firms is intended for employers who are experiencing rapid growth and need to hire foreign workers to meet their business needs. The Stream for Established Firms is intended for employers who are looking to hire foreign workers for in-demand, high-skilled occupations.
  3. Prepare the application: To apply for the Global Talent Stream, an employer must complete an application form and provide the required supporting documents. This may include information about the job, the employer’s business, and the foreign worker’s qualifications and experience.
  4. Submit the application: The employer must submit the completed application form, along with the required documents and fees, to ESDC.
  5. Review and decision: ESDC will review the application and make a decision based on the information provided. If the application is approved, the employer can offer the job to a foreign worker and the worker can apply for a work permit. If the application is denied, the employer will not be able to hire a foreign worker through the Global Talent Stream.

It is important to note that the Global Talent Stream is not a guarantee of an LMIA or a work permit, and employers must still meet all applicable requirements and follow all applicable laws and regulations. The Global Talent Stream aims to process applications within a few weeks, which is faster than the standard LMIA process, but it is still important for employers to start the process as early as possible to ensure that they are able to hire the foreign worker in a timely manner.
